Part L Building Regulations Approved document L1A covers the conservation of fuel and power in newly constructed dwellings.  ADL1A  provides the requirement for SAP assessments to be made. Strictly speaking, only BRE Accredited Domestic Energy Assessors have competent persons status under this Approved Document.

Part L building regulations Approved document L1B covers the conservation of fuel and power in extension and conversion of existing dwellings. ADL1B makes provision for SAP modelling as a method of compliance when area weighted u-values would be insufficient.

 
Use of accredited construction details make a significant improvement in the SAP Assessment and Air Permeability Test. This link takes you to the Planning Portal where you can browse and download the construction details you are using to ensure you can claim the credit for using accredited details.

Code for Sustainable Homes - Setting the Standard for New Homes is a CLG publication which gives a more detailed insight into the Code and its aims and objectives. This is a useful and less technical publication making the content of the Code more easily understood.
